There is nothing more upsetting than finding your content spread all over other Websites - without your knowledge and without as much as a word crediting you with it. To make matters worse, there is also a good chance of your own site being penalised by search engines for duplicate content. There are, however, ways in which you can prevent your content from being stolen. One of these ways is to copyright your page.

Copywriting a site is an effective way of stopping people simply copying your content and placing it onto other sites. This can be achieved by going to the official Copyright Office site, registering your site there and adding copyright Meta tags to all pages containing your company/ Website name.

You will need to provide copies of all pages you wish to protect (which, by the way, you should also place onto a CD as a personal back-up) and paying the relevant processing fee. On acceptance, you will be issued an official Certificate of Registration, which then enables you to sue/ claim compensation from anyone - whether it happens to be an individual or anther company - stealing your work.

Naturally, doing this as soon as possible is essential - as a rule it should be done within the first three months of a site being launched. A successful law suit, by the way, means you are also able to recover your legal costs and statutory damages.
